Men’s Health – Game Changer MD and the Honeymoon Effect
One of my patients and good friends, Chris C., is a man of success and thoughtful introspection. We were discussing the idea of game changer, and one thing I noted was that each of these game changers is limited by the honeymoon effect. Before we push forward, let’s define what we mean. Men’s health game changers include medications, supplements, or hormone therapies that have a symptehteoic or tangible effect. It does something to you that you can feel. Most of wellness medicine relies on the principle of what’s good for you. The most simple example is testosterone. 8 hours after you take that injection, something is different. You feel spry, you feel that extra kick in the step and you feel more awake. Other examples include Vitamin B12 injections, Oxandrolone theraphy, Provigil, and many more. Men’s health game changers are unique in that people typically want more of them. There is a desire there that is fueled by the sensation that they give. Items such as Vitamin D, Fish Oil, and Coq10, although their researches are extremely strong and volumes of text have been dedicated to them, these are not what I consider as game changes. When is the last time you heard someone say—and be honest about this—“That Fish Oil made me feel really good? “What that Vitamin D gave me the kick in the pants I need.”
Now don’t get me wrong, these are still very important to your health. The men’s health game changers are sought after, whereas everything else needs to be offered/sold.
So what is a honeymoon effect, and how does it tie into this. The honeymoon effect can be defined as the symptomatic euphoria that you experience when you first take a game changer. The most common example again is Testosterone. When patients first start Testosterone, it’s almost like being in love, being a newly wed. The magic is in the air, you feel great, you look forward to days and life, and most importantly, that euphoria feeling creates a halo on everything that you see, feel and do. They feel like they’ve awoken from the dead. They have a new lease on life. They can experience things on a level that they haven’t been for the last 10- 20 years. For men who are particularly low on Testosterone, this effect can be life-changing. However, just like in marriage, 4-6 months later, the euphoria feeling wears off. You still will maintain the benefits such as the energy, sexual function, vigor, but the halos and the magic are not as strong and forceful as they once were. Over the years, men often complain about this, but when you look at them even when they’ve lost the honeymoon effect, they’re completely different people than when they first started. All the game changers listed—growth hormone, Provigil, Oxdandrolone—encounter the same process.
My goal in writing about this is to be transparent as possible as what to expect with regard to men’s health. The day of your 18 th birthday is special and you feel it, however, your 18 year and 6 month birthday is normally quite different.
Philosophy of the basics
One thing that we have sought to eliminate over the years is fluff. We have found here that the best men’s health solutions are usually the simplest and thus the most practical. However, they may not be the most obvious. The key points in determining if a particular item will help you are 1) is it safe, 2) is it effective, and 3) is it tangible?
Note that there were no mentions of anything financial in there. We take great care to recommend to you what works and what doesn’t. In this however, is a purposeful ignorance to how much things cost. Overall, the services that we offer here we believe are fair priced. However, if there is something that can help you, and that is beyond your expenses, it is with a heavy heart that I say, “I’m sorry, that’s just the way it is.” The bottom line is that if you want to push the edges of health, to be in front of the race, and moving ahead in leaps and bounds, this will be an investment for you.
By any means necessary
Generally speaking, moving towards natural treatments and cures is a better way of administering treatments. However, all too often, people will sacrifice results in their efforts to remain what they perceive as natural. We have had a lot of success over the years in employing a very simple yet thoughtful idea: Use what works. Often using a natural solution will not yield the level of results that we want you to get. If a natural solution will suffice, then so be it. However, if it will not, we will not hesitate to recommend a supplemental or a pharmaceutical solution to the problem. Please be aware that we are not and have never found the usage of supplements alone to be adequate for the healthy, aging male.
Let’s face it, extremism is sexy. A person who is absolutely focused, single-minded, and relentless on pursuit of their goal is often someone most people want to follow. They aren’t concerned with anything positive that they leave behind, however more harmful, collateral damage they may cause in pursuit of their goal.
In the modern world, political extremism has rarely resulted in benefitting mankind. Simply speaking, extremism is rarely practical and extremists have a very difficult time functioning with the common men in the modern world.
Although changes need to be made to your diet, lifestyle, and perhaps your exercise regimens, we do not ever want an extremist approach is only helpful in pursuit of a short-term goal. However, once that goal is achieved, an extremist attitude, especially in nutrition/exercise can do more harm than good. For example, most wellness experts and research indicate the harm of red meat. However, for the red-blooded American male, a Wagyu steak is something that should be celebrated, not maligned. Elimination of such a thing that give us pleasure is not our way. Yes, they should be minimized, but never eliminated. In the same way that exercising the same muscle group for two hours every single day will cause more damage than good, an extremist attitude here is not helpful.
If you are new to the eating principles that you learned, it’s a good idea to tighten up your diet by sticking to what we discussed. However, if you find it difficult, yes you can have that piece of steak once a week. However, especially in the initial phase, any “cheats” should be strongly limited and only used you to prevent you from going insane.
