There is now one more test for our colon cancer prevention arsenal.
But although guys will get some excellent data about their genetic risk for colon cancer, for females, this is particularly noteworthy.
A new company out of San Francisco, Color, offers cancer genetic testing. It looks at the genes that put you at significant risk for cancer. It will not tell you have it, but it will tell you if you have the genetics for cancer i.e. cancer genes for that type of cancer. The test looks at 8 different cancers and about 85 different genes.
So what is so special about this test?
For women, it tests for BRCA1 and BRCA2, arguably the two most important breast cancer genes. This is the first time that these are widely available at a SIGNIFICANTLY reduced cost – prior to this it was several thousand dollars to get these 2 genes looked at. EVERY female needs to know if they have these genes.
For guys if BRCA2 if present in guys , it will make high grade prostate cancer (and a few others) MUCH more aggressive. Just for this alone, the test is worth doing. It does test for genes that are relevant to colon cancer, pancreatic, stomach and prostate.
The test is available retail so you can order it on the website. If you don’t have the time or patience for it, we are happy to help. The cost through us will be $600 including mobile phlebotomy and full discussion and guidance of the results – this will include any member of your family who gets it done. Let me know if you are interested or if you have any questions.
